Taking Science Outside
Glacier Fieldwork
Did you know that the Icelandic ice caps are changing every day? Subject to constant weather events, a changing climate, plate tectonics, and volcanic activity, these ice caps are dynamic, flowing entities. While glaciers are governed by a fundamental set of equations and physical laws, they can be really difficult to model and project into the future. In order to build computer models that make physical sense, we need to travel to the glaciers and monitor things like seismology, weather, precipitation, accumulation, and meltwater. This is where we get our data and our intuition regarding energy and mass balance; join us on a photo journey through our expeditions!
